For September 2025

The Godolphin and Latymer School is one of the country’s leading independent day schools for girls, located on a six acre site in Hammersmith, London.  The School’s facilities are excellent, making it an exciting place to learn and work.  The students at Godolphin and Latymer receive unrivalled academic and pastoral support and outstanding examination results are achieved.

We currently seek to appoint a well-qualified, ambitious and experienced Teacher or current Head of Department to join the school from September 2025 in the role of Head of History and Politics.  This role has arisen due to internal promotion of the current postholder to a senior leadership position, and is a rare and exciting opportunity to shape and direct progress and attainment in History and Politics. The Head of History and Politics leads and manages a highly qualified and experienced department of twelve, including the Head of Politics. The successful candidate will be able to develop further the use of teaching strategies which encourage a deep and scholarly engagement with the subject whilst focusing on excellent levels of achievement in all sections of the school. They will be an inspirational teacher and will demonstrate high levels of commitment to the development of History and Politics at Godolphin and Latymer, including engaging with the whole school enthusiasm for evidence-informed teaching and learning.

History and Politics are thriving subjects at the school.  As a department, we believe in the intrinsic value of studying History and Politics and aim to enrich our students’ curiosity about the past and the society in which they live. Critical thinking, creativity and well honed research skills are key components of how we approach both subjects. We aim to enrich and enliven students’ understanding of History and Politics, whilst building their ability to consider rigorously the evidential base from which they derive their knowledge and build their arguments. Many of our students go on to university to study a History or Politics related subject, so we are committed to preparing them for their undergraduate studies.

There is a very active extra-curricular offering within the department, to which all members of the department are expected to contribute.  We run several trips, including to foreign destinations, and the Head of Department will take a lead role in planning such excursions. All members of departmental staff assist with the university preparation programme and participate in our thriving History Society, Politics Society and Anthropology and Social Sciences Society. All staff are expected to support the wider school extra-curricular programme in some way.

The salary will be commensurate with the post and will depend upon qualifications and experience.

Single-occupancy accommodation may be available for new staff in a local six-unit property.
