News The School is Alive with the Sound of Music 12.05.2022
We have had a number of music events and concerts over the course of the week that showcased the great musicality of our students in a variety of styles and genres.
The Bishop Centre was transformed on Friday evening as we hosted our first live Jazz Night in three years. Organised jointly by the PTFA and the Music department, parents enjoyed a delicious three-course meal in an atmospheric Jazz Club setting, with all funds raised going to support the PTFA. As well as music from professional jazz pianist Dominic Doutney, there were performances from eighteen talented student musicians with favourites such as ‘Feeling Good’, ‘L-O-V-E’, ‘What a Wonderful World’ and ‘Dream a Little Dream of Me’.
On Monday an audience of staff, students and parents were treated to performances from our Chamber ensembles at our annual Chamber Concert. Featuring performances from piano trios, string quartets, flute ensembles and more, our talented student musicians performed pieces they had worked on either independently or with the help of Godolphin teachers and scholars.
Following the success of our Winter and Spring Jam nights, Wednesday saw the Bishop Centre showcasing some of the best bands, duos and solo performers that Godolphin has to offer at the Summer Jam. There were a variety of styles and genres on offer, with everything ranging from ‘Jolene’, sang beautifully by Rose in the Lower Sixth, to a moving rendition of ‘Fix You’ by Coldplay, and a performance from Year 8 band, SLBS.
