News Spring Half-Term Sports Round-Up 13.02.2025

It’s been a busy half-term for our sports teams who are progressing well in a number of competitions and enjoying their friendly fixtures.

HOCKEY

Hockey has had a successful start to the new year with the U14 team reaching the Tier 2 National Finals.  The team played some fantastic hockey at the tournament in Nottingham, finishing 6th nationally, a fantastic achievement. The U13 girls narrowly missed out on progression through to regionals, with too many draws just edging them out.  The 1XI also narrowly missed out to a strong Brighton College side in the quarter final of the ISHC. Across the other age groups there have been strong performances in recent friendly games, alongside very pleasing individual player development.

NETBALL

This half term, the U14 netball squad has made an impressive run, securing a spot in the Quarter Finals of the Sister and Sport Cup, with the semi-finals and finals coming up next term. Both the U14 and U15 teams are gearing up for the Middlesex Finals and have seen success in their friendly matches this term. The U13 and U12 teams have enjoyed fantastic victories in their block fixtures against LEH and Surbiton, showcasing the talent and enthusiasm of our younger players. The Senior team has been competitive in fixtures against South Hampstead, Cardinal, and St Paul’s, continuing to perform well after the exam period.

ROWING

This half term started with a bang at Quintin Head, with Godolphin’s biggest ever head race entry – five crews, 45 athletes, and stunning weather. All five crews delivered excellent performances, placing in the top 10 or top 5 in their categories, with the J16s claiming second place! This weekend three athletes from Godolphin have been invited to race at the GB trials, which is a fantastic achievement, and we wish them well. This half term also saw the start of the Year 8 ergo club, with over 40 potential new rowers! With these fresh new faces, and throughout the rest of the squad, training has continued to progress well, and the club continues to grow in strength and depth.

Cricket

With the ECB indoor competition underway, our U13 had a strong qualifying Borough round, winning it convincingly, and are now in the Middlesex Finals which will happen after half term. Meanwhile they also became London Schools’ champions along with our U12 team after both squads played brilliantly up at Lord’s earlier this term.

Cross Country

Our Cross Country team participated in the LSAA Main Cross Country Championships on Wednesday 5 February. The course was rather muddy however it was a beautiful blue-sky day. Congratulations to all our participants, especially our Year 7 and 8 athletes who were taking part in their first ever running event, up to our accomplished Year 11 and Sixth Form athletes. We’re particularly proud of Arabella Nichol placing 2nd in the Inter girls event and Allegra Massey placing 1st in the Senior girls event. The first four finishers per division qualify to represent London in the ESAA Champs on the 15 March, with a further four places for the best times of finishers/non competitors eligible for selection in each division. Maeve Minielly (6th in IG) and Maya Sutaria (5th in SG) did exceptionally well and may well still qualify for the ESAA Champs.
