News Spring Chamber Music Concert 14.03.2025
This year’s Chamber Music Concert showcased a delightful and diverse selection of music, featuring performances ranging from duets to larger instrumental ensembles.
The evening commenced with a vocal trio, accompanied by Year 11 and Upper Sixth string quartet, delivering a captivating performance of Mozart’s Terzetto from Così fan tutte. It was a pleasure to hear Sixth Form students Millan and Ella’s soaring vocals, underpinned by Dr Ooi’s vocal tenacity in the bass line. This was followed by a wonderful interpretation of Miss Livvy – An Edwardian Saga, beautifully performed by the Flute Ensemble. Next, Year 11 student Sophia gave a refined and elegant rendition of Wolf’s Auf ein altes Bild, expertly accompanied by her classmate Sofia.
The Year 11 String Quartet presented a beautifully prepared and expressive performance of La oración del Torero, demonstrating both skill and sensitivity. The Brass Ensemble followed with an energetic and stylish performance of Jock McKenzie’s The Preacher Man, brimming with character and flair. Next, Upper Sixth student Imogen delivered a poised and lyrical interpretation of Mozart’s Das Veilchen, capturing its delicate beauty.
It was particularly exciting to see two newly formed ensembles make their debut performances. Under the direction of Mr Smith, the Guitar Ensemble charmed the audience with From the Andes, a performance that was truly captivating. This was followed by our new, student-led Year 9 a cappella ensemble, who gave accomplished and impressively independent renditions of Sarah Quartel’s Agnus Dei and Lux Aurumque.
Adding a playful touch to the evening, Tilly and Mia in Year 9 — our very own Mario and Luigi — delighted the audience with their spirited marimba duet of the Super Mario theme tune. The concert concluded with two outstanding performances: Andrea Saad, Year 8, accompanied beautifully by Alyssa, Year 10, gave an expressive interpretation of Vieni, vieni, o mio diletto, filling the Hall with warmth and musicality, before our accomplished Upper Sixth String Quartet brought the evening to a dramatic and fitting close with Death and the Maiden by Schubert.
Many congratulations to all of the evening’s performers, and a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated and talented team of music teachers, whose guidance and expertise ensured such a polished and memorable concert.
