Last week the Politics Society welcomed Martin Cox, Director of the John Locke Institute, to discuss the intricacies of public sector wages, focusing on the NHS and education.
During the talk, Mr Cox shared his journey, beginning as an entrepreneur before studying PPE at Oxford University, where he later returned as an Economics Lecturer. Now he works as Director of the John Locke Institute, an international organisation dedicated to promoting the study of Locke’s philosophical, political, and theological ideas. He discussed the new Labour government’s policies, particularly in relation to the education and healthcare systems, and explored the debate surrounding raising the national wages in these sectors.
His engaging and insightful approach left a lasting impression on the students, inspiring discussions around contemporary economic and political issues. For students passionate about political theory and economics, this talk was an invaluable opportunity for deeper engagement.
