News News from the Godolphin Boat Club 09.03.2023
Last Friday the Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club and the Supporter’s Association were delighted to welcome world and Olympic Rowing champion, Grace Prendergast, to speak at our fundraising dinner. Grace has been world champion in the New Zealand women’s pair five times, as well as winning gold in the pair at the Tokyo Olympics, alongside a silver in the eight. She has also won the Boat Race with Cambridge. Grace gave an inspirational speech about her rowing journey and took many questions from the rowers and their parents. She kindly posed for photos with her gold medal after the talks and inspired all the rowers with her love of the sport of rowing. This year all fundraising efforts have been put towards buying a new eight boat and electronic telemetry equipment to deliver live biometric feedback.
In other Boat Club news, the largest women’s rowing race in the world, the Women’s Eights Head of the River, was raced last weekend on our home stretch of the Thames. Our crew had a great row to finish 14th in their category, against some top-class opposition.
And we were delighted to learn that Old Dolphin Alex Riddell-Webster (Class of 2020), who was our first ever GB Junior rower, has this year been named in Cambridge’s Women’s Blue Boat. She will be competing alongside Olympians and World Champions in the 77th Women’s Boat Race against Oxford at the end of March. We wish Alex every success in the race.
