News Model United Nations Success: New delegates shine in busy week of conferences 14.11.2024
The Model United Nations Society broke new ground this week by attending two conferences in one week and, for the first time, taking our current delegates beyond London since they joined the society.
On Saturday, students traveled to Guildford to attend a one-day conference at Royal Grammar School, meeting at Waterloo Station to take the train together. The group was less experienced than the team that attended a weekend conference earlier in the term, but throughout the day, their confidence grew. They left the conference with both an individual award and a delegation certificate.
Then, on Tuesday after school, twenty girls made the short trip to Latymer for in a mini-conference. This diverse group included students from Years 8 to the Upper Sixth, with a mix of seasoned delegates and first-time participants. They competed against seven other schools, which also fielded teams with varying ages and levels of experience, including some Year 7s from our hosts.
As is often the case with Model United Nations, a hands-on approach helped our newer delegates build confidence throughout the evening – especially with novices from other schools sharing in their nerves. True to form, our students brought home three Best Delegate awards.
The number of girls participating in MUN has increased sharply this year and this week’s demanding schedule has provided an opportunity for more of them to have stimulating and rewarding experiences that will stand them in good stead for future conferences.
