One of the show’s signature tunes, ‘We’re All in This Together’, perfectly summed-up the warmth and enthusiasm emanating from the stage of the Bishop Centre this week. 89 students from Years 8 and 9 performed and were supported by a technical crew of Year 10s and two student musicians to recreate Disney’s popular children’s film live on stage.
The project began with auditions in September before rehearsals for the principal characters in October. The five fabulous chorus groups or ‘cliques’ – Jocks, Cheerleaders, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes – joined the process in January. Direction by Miss Tricker and Musical Direction by Ms Reid, combined with the patience and skill of seven student Assistant Directors, meant that this was an all-inclusive theatrical extravaganza.
The dress-rehearsal on Tuesday was enjoyed by all the girls in Year 7 and children from neighbouring primary schools. Tickets for the evening performances on Tuesday and Wednesday sold-out within 24 hours of release; a testament to the support of friends and families and the fondness students have for this childhood favourite. The audiences responded with rapturous applause and commented on the wealth of talent amongst the cast. Well done to all those involved.
