Congratulations to Lower Sixth IB student Jess who achieved a commended award in the 2021 eMagazine Close Reading Award for a superb analysis of a passage of prose.
Open to Sixth Form students across the country, the competition required entrants to write a 500-word close reading analysis of Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel Homegoing. Jess’ entry impressed the competition’s judges who described it as ‘perceptive and well written’. On the competition, Jess said, ‘I really enjoyed analysing a passage from Ghanian-American writer Yaa Gyasi’s debut novel Homegoing, as her captivating writing style created a very powerful story, and I was delighted to receive a commendation for my analysis from the judges.’ Godolphin Head of English Julian Bell said, ‘I am so proud of Jess for her success. It is wonderful to see students taking on challenges above and beyond their IB and A Level studies.’
