News Hockey Pre-Season Preparations 05.09.2024

The hockey season started in emphatic style with our senior squad travelling to Nottingham for a pre-season tournament, while students in Years 7-10 enjoyed an excellent day of coaching from top hockey internationals.

Ellie Rayer, Liz Thompson, Hannah Cozens, Bridget Blackwood, Amy Thompson and Fran Davies made up the coaching team, with Olympic, Commonwealth and European medals between them. The girls in attendance soaked up the advice and worked to a high level throughout the sessions. They also had the chance to ask the coaches questions about their playing experience, which provided invaluable insight. It was fantastic to see so many of our new Year 7s picking up a hockey stick for the first time, alongside returning players honing their skills.

Meanwhile, the senior squad travelled to Nottingham for a pre-season tournament, allowing them to bond and prepare for the coming season. The girls enjoyed a water obstacle course on the Friday, followed by a team meal to prepare for the matches the following day. The team played some excellent hockey against some of the top schools in the country, narrowly missing out on finishing 2nd in their group. Into Sunday and the crossover matches, there were some very tired legs but the team stuck together to record some excellent results. The girls performed to a high level and developed their understanding of pressing and out letting as the tournament went on. With a range of ages in the senior squad, it was wonderful to see the girls unit and support each other throughout the weekend.
