News Futures Working Lunches: Ian Harnett 28.02.2020

On Friday we welcomed Ian Harnett, co-founder and managing director of Europe’s leading provider of macro-investment strategy advice, Absolute Strategy Research, to speak to students at the latest in our Futures Working Lunches.

Ian has over 30 years of experience in the markets and was the #1 ranked European equity strategist when he headed the European Equity Strategy team for UBS. He read PPE and subsequently gained a Doctorate in Economics from Oxford University and is a regular contributor to Bloomberg TV, CNBC and his views are frequently referenced in the FT, WSJ and the Economist. Ian spoke at length about some of the challenges the financial world faces in an ever-changing economic environment and described some of the questions Absolute Strategy Research have to answer for their clients, such as ‘what will the future of climate change economics look like?’ and ‘what technologies should we invest in?’.

Ian implored girls in choosing a career path to find what they love and follow it, and his fascinating insight into the world of economics cannot have done any harm in convincing our Sixth Formers to pursue the subject at university.
