News F1 in Schools Regional Competition 13.03.2025

A group of 21 students from Year 10, Year 11, and the Lower Sixth recently travelled to the University of Bath to compete in the F1 in Schools Regional Competition. The competition challenges students to design, build, and race miniature Formula 1 cars.

Throughout the project, students gain hands-on experience in fields such as engineering, CAD (computer-aided design), and CNC (computer numerical controlled) machining, while also developing skills in marketing, sponsorship, and financial management. Having worked on their projects for several months, the Godolphin and Latymer teams utilised various computer-aided manufacturing techniques, supported by the school’s Technology department. Their efforts culminated in the regional competition, where they presented their work through pit displays, detailed portfolios, and verbal presentations.

The students performed exceptionally well, with multiple teams receiving nominations for awards. One team achieved an impressive third place in the Professional Class, narrowly missing out on qualification for the national final later this month. Though there were no wins this year, the teams’ strong performances and nominations reflect their hard work and talent.
