Speech and Drama Trinity Champion Centre

Speech and Drama is offered as an additional option to all students. More than 350 students each year take Speech and Drama lessons. These sessions are hugely popular and help to build confidence, develop individual performance skills and to provide an opportunity to practise communication and presentation skills – essential life-skills for the world of work and beyond!

Students are taught in small groups in forty minute lessons and follow the Trinity College London Speech and Drama courses, working towards optional examinations at the end of the school year. Students begin at Grade 3 and work towards Grade 8 in the Sixth Form. They perform play extracts, poetry, book extracts and public speeches and each grade includes an expressive reading and a short interview task. Trinity College exams have no set texts so enable each student to develop a bespoke exam programme, reflecting their own skills, interests and experiences.

We have been named as a Trinity Champion Centre for the sixth year running! This is awarded for our extensive programme of Speech and Drama study and for our consistently outstanding exam results.

Speech and Drama has not only made me more confident, but has taught me empathy, teamwork and to be more spontaneous. It has given me the courage to talk and perform in front of a wide audience and I am using these skills more and more as I move up the school.
