News Computer Scientists Shine in Coding and Robotics Competitions 13.03.2025
It has been a busy term for the schools’ Computer Scientists. A fortnight ago three Year 10 and three Lower Sixth students took part in the global coding competition Codequest. In this in-person competition, each team was up against around twenty other teams in their respective categories. The goal was to write code to solve as many of the set problems as possible over 2 hours 30 mins. The Lower Sixth team were on the leader board for much of the competition but got nudged into 4th place in the final stages. However, the Year 10 team managed to secure 2nd place, and a trophy!
Their success was matched a week later by a team of Year 7 and 8 students taking part in the First Lego League competition, which was the culmination of several months of work in Junior Robotics Club. The students presented their innovation expert to a panel of experts and competed against other schools in a Lego robotics challenge, all while displaying the First Lego League core values. Each student came away with a medal and the team was awarded a Judge’s Choice Award.
Meanwhile in school, around forty students from Years 8 to 11 took part in the Perse Team Coding Challenge and a number of students in Years 8 and 11 were awarded Distinctions. Some of them have gone on to challenge themselves further in the next round of the Challenge this past week.
Finally, looking ahead, the last week of term will see nearly 40 students from across Years 7 to the Lower Sixth compete in the Bebras Coding Challenge, having earned their place in the competition by achieving Distinction in the Bebras Computational Thinking Competition. We wish them the best of luck!
