News Author Paul Dowswell on Historical Fiction 31.01.2020
We were delighted to welcome author Paul Dowswell to the school to speak to Years 9 and 10 about his works of historical fiction with an emphasis on the Cold War and totalitarian states.
Paul, who was the recipient of the Trinity Schools Book Award 2019 for his novel Ausländer, gave two informative talks that detailed what it was like to live behind the Iron Curtain, and the differences in approach between the Gestapo and the Stasi, which was particularly useful for Year 10 students embarking on their study of the Cold War for GCSE History. He also gave invaluable advice to budding Year 7 and 8 writers, when based in the Library over the lunch break.
The talks were really well received by both students and staff alike and the school extends its thanks to Paul, a prolific writer of both historical fiction and non-fiction, for taking the time to come and speak to our students.
