News Spring Rowing Round-up 07.03.2025
Last week the Boat Club were incredibly lucky to welcome Emily Craig as their keynote speaker at their annual dinner. After a wonderful evening celebrating their successes over the last twelve months and hearing Emily speak about her journey to Olympic Champion, the team were inspired heading into their weekend training.
On Saturday alongside our usual training, our senior ‘A’ boat took part in a series of fixtures against the Cambridge University Lightweights, with three pieces over the Boat Race course. Cambridge won the toss and chose Middlesex. This gave them a slight advantage of the Fulham bend for the first piece, which they used to overcome an early Godolphin lead and take the first piece by 2 seats. Undaunted, our Godolphin rowers fought back hard in the second piece, claiming the lead and holding Cambridge off to win by a solid two-thirds of a length! Going into the final piece, the week’s heavy training load (including 2k tests!) began to take its toll and Cambridge were unfortunately able to take a steady lead in the final piece. Whilst the verdict was 2-1 Cambridge, the Boat Race umpire was thoroughly impressed by Godolphin rowing, and the team have a lot to be proud of.
Not wanting to leave all of the fun to the seniors, the J15s also took part in a fixture this weekend. They were able to gain valuable race experience on Sunday with a friendly match against several other J15 crews after weather conditions had prevented their racing at Hammersmith Head a week earlier. All of the girls can be proud of their performance after putting in a competitive time!
We are now looking forward to Women’s Head of the River this weekend as well as the Schools Head and the Scullery Head at the end of the month.
