News CYL Make a Difference: Community Impact Project 10.10.2024

On Wednesday afternoon we opened up our doors to around 400 pupils from Wendell Park Primary School and Brackenbury Primary School to enjoy a host of activities as part of our CYL Make a Difference week. As well as sharing our resources and facilities with local primary school children, the afternoon also gave our own students the opportunity to lead, support and connect with the younger pupils..

Out on the Astro pupils took part in a carousel of mini competitions which saw them finessing their footballing dribbling skills, practising their shooting, and improving their balance and coordination under the guise of ‘noughts and crosses’. The Sports Hall was a scene of impressive dance moves with children from the primary schools linking up with the Godolphin girls for Just Dance sessions. Meanwhile, up in the Library, our students were running drama improvisation sessions for groups of pupils while in the Cloisters Room our young enterprise gurus helped the Year 6 students navigate the Mini Entrepreneurship Workshops.

One of the biggest undertakings was a Challenge Your Limits Cantata written by our Director of Music, Mr Langworthy, for over 200 primary school children and Year 7 Dolphins. The students learnt three songs: Challenge Your Limits; Astronaut in Space; and A Million Little Things, and they wrote the words to the verses themselves. The whole afternoon culminated in a concert in the Bishop Centre where the joy and enthusiasm of the performers was matched by the appreciative parents in the audience.

The afternoon was the brainchild of Mr Carroll and was only possible with the support of our wonderful Premises Team, teachers and support staff. Hopefully it will become a regular fixture on our calendar.
