News Hans Woyda Maths Competition at City of London School for Girls 25.09.2024
On Monday, Godolphin students in Years 9-Upper Sixth took part in the first round of the Hans Woyda Maths competition at City of London School for Girls.
The team – consisting of Chloe in Year 9, Helene in Year 11, Alex in the Lower Sixth, and Victoria in the Upper Sixth – worked very quickly to solve a series of challenging problems that were based on questions from the very first round of the prestigious Hans Woyda competitions, in 1979-80.
Although the students significantly improved their problem solving speed as the competition progressed, some incorrect answers in the Team Round meant they went into the next round with a negative score. However, the team dug in and managed to narrow the gap on the later calculator and Algebra rounds. Sadly, they ran out of time to catch up on the opposition but nonetheless, were thrilled to have scored over 30 points which was above the average from previous years. Well done, everyone!
