News Euripides’ ‘Bacchae’ at the Bloomsbury Theatre 09.02.2024
On Wednesday evening, Middle School and Sixth Form classicists visited the Bloomsbury Theatre to see UCL’s production of Euripides’ Bacchae, one of the greatest works of Greek tragedy.
The production was a great hit with students; some of whom are studying the play as a set text, while others were new to the play and to ancient Greek drama in general. The production was dynamic and exciting, with charismatic performances from the cast, making use of a strikingly modern translation that was particularly effective in bringing the story to life. Our students engaged brilliantly with the play’s exploration of justice, morality and the dangers of closed-mindedness, themes which are as pressing now as they were when the play was first performed in Athens 2,500 years ago.
