News South Hampstead High School Debating Competition 07.12.2023

Last Saturday four teams of Godolphin debaters took part in South Hampstead School’s Debating Competition.

It was a huge event, with 120 teams participating across Junior and Senior divisions. Teams were allocated motions and sides with only fifteen minutes to prepare before each debate. Motions included whether everyone should have superpowers as well as the more prosaic structures for selecting parliamentary candidates. Our juniors had not done four rounds of short prep before, so the back-to-back of the competition was a drink from a pressure hose initiation. All four of our teams finished in the top third of their respective divisions, with Franny and Sophie just missing the break to the finals.
