News Year 8 Edinburgh Sports Tour 31.10.2023

After an early morning flight to Edinburgh our eager Year 8 netballers and hockey players headed straight to Edinburgh castle for a spot of sightseeing. With amazing views of Edinburgh and a little history of the castle the tour had officially begun. Edinburgh dungeons provided a mixture of history and fright, followed by a quick shopping trip before the group arrived at their hotel and rounded off a jam-packed day with dinner at Pizza Express.

Day 2 started with a lovely hotel breakfast then it was straight off to hockey and netball camps for the first full day in Edinburgh. Both camps were engaging and gave the girls a chance to be coached by international players, and also to meet other girls the same age as them on the camp. After an exciting camp (especially for hockey which was based at Hogwarts!) the girls headed to their first hockey and netball fixtures which were all very competitive and it was great for the girls to experience playing a different club.

Day 3 was another full day packed with lots of activities. It was back to the hockey and netball camps for the girls in the morning and part of the afternoon, followed by an earlier dinner at Nando’s. After dinner it was time to discover a new sport: curling! It was certainly a great challenge being out on the ice, but also fun and despite a few slips there were definitely some future curlers in the making.

Day 4, the final day, brought some typical Scottish weather which meant a change to the planned programme of fixtures. This didn’t stop the fun for the girls. The day started with a tour of Murrayfield stadium which was fascinating and gave a chance for an up close look at Scottish rugby heritage. After buying some souvenirs they headed off to play some very competitive mini golf and bowling. To finish off the tour the group indulged in a bit of retail therapy and the obligatory trip to Starbucks before heading off to the airport.

After a flight back to Heathrow the girls were reunited with their parents and the tour was officially over. It had been a busy few days but the girls all had smiles on their faces throughout and had obviously had the best time playing sport whilst seeing the sights.
