News Summer Concert 2023 05.07.2023
On Monday the final concert of the school year took place in the Bishop Centre.
Despite the absence of Year 11 and the Upper Sixth, a delightful medley of musical offerings engaged a packed audience with music straddling several genres and styles, from the newly-formed harp ensemble playing extracts from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake to the Year 8 and 9 choir belting out the title number from the hit musical Six. A chamber ensemble from the Symphony Orchestra challenged intellectual as well as aesthetic curiosity with Terry Riley’s seminal if challenging In C, in which the performers have a degree of autonomy in what they play when; the Year 9 ensemble performed the scherzo from Brahms’s seminal piano quintet with verve. One highlight was the whole of Year 7, self-accompanied by a ukulele orchestra, singing Over The Rainbow.
It has been a magical year of music-making at Godolphin and this was a most fitting finale.
