News Rowing is back with a Splash! 07.05.2021
Like the rest of the world, our rowing programme was brought to a standstill by Covid-19. Keen to make up for lost time, rowing is back with a splash with all year groups back out on the water.
Together, as a team, the Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club have adapted training plans and venues to allow our year-group bubbles to stay safe, focused and physically fit. Lower and Middle School students have been practising in smaller boats and our senior girls are busy preparing for the upcoming National Schools’ and Women’s Henley Regatta. These events will not have spectators this year, but you will be able to follow their progress on Twitter – @GandLRowing.
We were also delighted to receive four new RP3 rowing machines last month thanks to the Godolphin and Latymer Boat Club Supporters’ Association. We are confident that these will help our Year 8 ergo club right through to our Senior rowers perfect the art of rowing, as well as enhancing fitness levels.
We have had some excellent recent news that our ex-Captain of Boats 2019-20 and first ever GB rower, Alex Riddell Webster, was selected to row in Cambridge University’s women’s crew Blondie, in her first year. Blondie triumphed over Oxford University’s Osiris crew by six lengths, at the 2021 Boat Race. This is a fantastic achievement, and one that the school is very proud of.
