News Dilia Commended in UK Supreme Court Student Writing Competition 29.04.2021

Many congratulations to Lower Sixth student Dilia Thovez whose essay in the UK Supreme Court Student Writing Competition received a commendation from the judges.

Aimed at Sixth Form students in England and Wales, The UK Supreme Court writing competition is a great way for those with a keen interest in law and the UK justice system to get involved and put their skills of persuasion to the test. Entrants were required to answer one of four set questions on topics ranging from human rights to combatting discrimination, using relevant past cases to help back up their answers.

Despite a record number of entrants, Dilia’s essay was commended by the judges for displaying an excellent understanding of recent Supreme Court jurisprudence, with the judges also noting how welcome it was ‘to see a candidate exploring the philosophical and ethical underpinnings of a public interest test’.

On the competition Dilia said, ‘As an aspiring Law student, I was particularly attracted to the UK Supreme Court’s brilliant and relatively new initiative. It aims to create an affinity with secondary schools, in preparation for higher education and beyond. It was an excellent opportunity to improve written argumentation skills, and to research cases of national importance’.
