News Body Positivity Day 06.02.2020

On Monday the school celebrated all physical forms and challenged unrealistic beauty standards for Body Positivity Day. Organised by the Head Girl’s Team, the day aimed to communicate to the school community that one size does not fit all.

The day started with a whole school assembly, where the Head Girl’s Team shared their body positivity role models. These included American drag queen, RuPaul, whose show ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ emphasises the importance of self-love and self-acceptance to Emmanuel Yeboah, a Ghanian man born without a shin bone who opened the Emmanuel Education Foundation for children with disabilities after cycling 400 miles across Ghana with a message of ‘disability doesn’t mean inability’.

In the afternoon, we welcomed back Old Dolphin and last year’s Head Girl, Issy Roberts, to speak at a lunchtime forum on challenging the ways in which society presents and views the physical body. This prompted really inspiring discussion from the girls on their own perceptions of themselves and the challenges they face from living in a digital age where everything can be faked or fixed.

It was fantastic to see so many girls engaged and taking part in the lunchtime forum and we thank the Head Girl’s Team for opening up the discussion on an incredibly important subject.
