News Old Dolphins’ Day 2019 04.10.2019

The rain held off as 143 alumnae came back to school this past Saturday for Old Dolphins’ Day. All in all, 32 year groups were represented between 1947 and 2012, with the Classes of 1979, 1989 and 1999 deserving a special mention for their record attendance.

Keynote speaker, producer and director Zara Balfour ’94, gave an inspirational and informative talk on her latest film, the award-winning Children of the Snow Land. This feature-length documentary tells the extraordinary story of a group of children born in the highest inhabited villages of the Himalayas who, as four-year-olds, left their families for twelve years to receive an education. 

Following the talk, Old Dolphins had the opportunity to catch up with old friends and classmates over a delicious lunch served in the Bishop Centre. The nostalgia continued into the afternoon with tours around the school.

The Classes of ’79 and ’99 struggled to remember which classroom had been the Latin room and where their Sixth Form common room had been – and at least one member of every year group tried to sneak into the Staff room, which was exactly where they remembered and thankfully locked! 

For many, it was their first time back since leaving decades before. The significant changes to the school buildings impressed, and many commented how pleased they were to see the school continue to move from strength to strength while staying true to its ethos.
