News Summer Sporting Successes 06.09.2019

It was a summer to remember for Lower Sixth student Alex and Year 11 students Amelie and Emily, as they celebrated some fantastic successes in rowing and hockey.

Alex, who is no stranger to accolades and awards for her rowing (having been Godolphin’s first Junior Rower to represent Great Britain at the Munich Regatta back in May) was again selected to represent GB at the World Rowing Junior Championships in Tokyo.

Despite some high winds on the day, the JW4 crew, made up of two rowers from Kingston and one from Henley, won the B Final to finish 7th overall. On her Twitter account, Alex thanked everyone for their support, saying that she had an amazing time and that it was “an honour to represent Great Britain”.

Year 11 girls Amelie and Emily started the opening game for Mercia Lynx’s U17 Girls team in England Hockey’s Futures Cup.

Held at Oaklands College, St Albans; The Futures Cup is the pinnacle of the Player Pathway – set up by England Hockey to provide an environment that helps all junior players from ages 14-17 realise their potential. The Mercia Lynx team, made up of representatives from the West Midlands, South Midlands, Reading and Weybridge study centres, narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in the third-fourth place playoff.

Following her performance between the sticks in the Futures Cup, Emily was nominated for England’s U18 NAGS (National Age Group) – the highest honour obtainable for a junior hockey player.
